Duck Feet are a firm, crunchy natural chew containing skin, connective tissue and bone. Their size, shape and density vary naturally between individual pieces, so suitability depends on both the dog and the individual foot.

Duck Feet are best suited to:

• Dogs aged 12 weeks and over.*

• Small to large dogs, provided the individual piece is appropriate for the dog.

• Dogs who enjoy firm, crunchy treats.

• Dogs who chew steadily rather than attempting to gulp treats whole.

• Dogs who can comfortably manage the size and shape of the individual foot.

They may not be suitable for:

• Dogs under 12 weeks of age.

• Dogs with a known duck allergy or sensitivity.

• Dogs who regularly gulp treats without chewing them.

• Dogs for whom the individual foot is too large to manage comfortably.

• Dogs with dental problems where hard, crunchy chews have been advised against.

Choosing the right piece

Our current batch ranges from approximately 9–17cm in length and 10–25g in weight, with most pieces around 15g.

Because individual feet vary considerably, don't rely on weight alone when choosing a piece. Consider the overall size, shape and thickness in relation to your individual dog.

*Age alone does not determine suitability. Puppies and young dogs of the same age can vary considerably in size, chewing ability and experience. Always choose an appropriately sized chew for your individual dog and supervise them closely while eating.

Digestibility Level: Moderate

Duck Feet are a firm, crunchy natural chew containing skin, connective tissue and bone. Unlike a soft meat treat, they require chewing, but they are intended to be consumed rather than used as a long-lasting recreational bone chew.

The manufacturer describes Duck Feet as a “quick daily snack”. At Alpha, we recommend treating them as an occasional crunchy chew, taking their nutritional content and your dog's overall diet into account.

Our own observation of the current batch found that a whole foot can be consumed in approximately 3–4 minutes by a steady chewer (Soloman) although chewing time will naturally vary between individual dogs and pieces.

We recommend:

• Introduce gradually, particularly if your dog isn't accustomed to natural chews.

• Offer as an occasional chew.

• Choose an individual foot that is appropriate for your dog's size and chewing style.

• Always supervise your dog while chewing.

• Observe how your dog uses the chew and remove it if they attempt to gulp it whole or show signs of difficulty.

• Remove any remaining pieces if they become small enough to swallow whole.

• Our natural treats are complementary pet food and should be fed as part of a balanced diet

• Take the treat into account as part of your dog's overall daily treat allowance.

• Because Duck Feet contain 28.3% crude fat, consider your dog's overall dietary fat intake when deciding how frequently to feed them.

• Ensure clean, fresh drinking water is always available.

• Not suitable for human consumption.

Natural animal treats vary in size, shape, thickness, texture and digestion time, so feeding amounts and chewing time will vary between individual pieces and dogs.

A whole Duck Foot contains more than just skin and bone.

Our Duck Feet are made from the complete natural foot, with the skin, webbing, connective tissues, cartilage and bones remaining intact through the dehydration process. Some pieces may also retain their natural claws.

Skin & Webbing:

The outer covering of the foot, including the webbing between the toes. These tissues naturally contain collagen.

Tendons & connective tissue:

Strong connective tissues that hold the foot together and contain naturally occurring collagen.

Cartilage:

Found around the joints and forms part of the natural structure of the foot.

Bone:

Provides the firm structure and contributes minerals and collagen-containing bone tissue.

Natural fatty tissue:

Duck feet naturally contain fatty tissue, which contributes to their relatively higher crude-fat content of 28.3%.

Claws: Some feet retain their natural claws. These are made from keratin and are naturally blunt on our current batch.

Nothing added, nothing taken away. Just a whole duck foot, naturally dried.
